Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban Help Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and LeAnn Rimes will appear in an upcoming episode of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, about rebuilding Lighthouse Christian School near Nashville. The property was heavily damaged by floods in May. The Extreme Makeover team, led by Ty Pennington, spent seven days working on the project, according to ABC. The episode is tentatively scheduled to air Nov. 7, leading up to the CMA Awards on Nov. 10.

'Rabbit Hole' is Flawless; Nicole Kidman at Her Best (TIFF 2010 Review)


I've been to more than 75 film festivals over the last ten years, so please believe me when I say that each one always offers a movie about "a couple mourning the loss of a child." Sundance, Tribeca, Toronto, all of them. I'm pretty sure it's a requirement, along with the melodramas about single moms, the Holocaust documentaries, and something weird from Gregg Araki. So I suppose I could be forgiven for almost overlooking 'Rabbit Hole'. Based only on the festival guide, I knew that the film starred Aaron Eckhart, Nicole Kidman, and Dianne Wiest, that it came from John Cameron Mitchell (the director of 'Shortbus' and 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch'), and that it was about (you guessed it) an unhappy married couple who are mourning the loss of their four-year-old son.

But I'm here to see movies, and I certainly like all of the names mentioned above, so in I walked to 'Rabbit Hole', simply hoping that the film wouldn't be too sappy, predictable, or manipulative.

What I ended up watching is, quite simply, one of the best films I've ever seen at a festival. I've always contended that there's no such thing as a "flawless" film, but now I'm going to amend that phrase to read "There's no such thing as a perfect film." Because 'Rabbit Hole' is, as far as I can tell, pretty much flawless.

Yes, the film is about a fractured married couple. Their names are Howie and Becca and they are indeed still mired in a deep valley of depression after the death of their little boy. (That brief synopsis is the most conventional thing about the film.) Howie (Eckhart) seems like he's one "grief stage" ahead of his wife, but they're both still wounded in deep and irreparable ways. Becca (Kidman) distracts herself with a slightly troubled younger sister (and her garden), while Howie tries to put on a brave face for his wife before scurrying off to the living room to watch old videos of his late son. They discuss having a new baby, they contemplate moving to a new house, they try (and fail) at the group therapy process. Eventually Becca finds solace in a very unlikely friend from the neighborhood; Howie continues with the therapy and manages to find a new companion of his own.

If everything that I just described in the previous paragraph sounds like something you've seen before (and probably on the Lifetime Channel), you can rest assured that 'Rabbit Hole' takes a simple and stunning approach to this well-covered material. In other words, this film is conceived and presented by real people. Kidman and Eckhart have never been better; Mitchell strikes an unbelievably effective balancing act between sincerity and well-earned empathy, and the screenplay (by David Lindsay-Abaire, based on his stage play) is nothing short of amazing. It's as if the filmmakers watched every single "our child has passed away!" movie -- but only so they'd know what NOT to do on this one.

Howie and Becca fight, and we wince because we've grown to care for these people so damn quickly, but they fight like a true married couple would: quick jolts of misery and anger followed by a casual reconciliation and then ... life goes on. There are easily a dozen scenes in 'Rabbit Hole' that feel like they're going down the conventional road, only to take a quick right at painfully real and effortlessly engaging. The film makes you feel like you're watching your beloved next-door neighbors go through a horrible ordeal, and while you can't do anything to help, you absolutely do hope for their recovery -- or as close to "recovery" as they can get. There's not false note to be found anywhere. When film critics talk about "manipulative" this and "pre-packaged" that, they're referring to the diametric opposite of 'Rabbit Hole'.

As for Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart, their work here (especially together) is quite simply amazing. There's such a natural vulnerability to their characters: the way a tragically wounded man will still pull his last verbal punch, because it's just too cruel, or how a desperately unhappy woman may scream horrible things while her eyes are already offering an apology ... the way a nod or a touch or even a change in a wife's voice will speak volumes to an attentive husband. It's simply wonderful to see two seasoned actors letting down their guard in a heartfelt and subtle film that never once goes for the easy cliche or predictable platitude.

As poignant as a bittersweet love letter and as personal as a film can possibly be, 'Rabbit Hole' represents career highs for practically everyone involved. I can't remember the last time a "little drama movie" left me overflowing with this sort of affection, but 'Rabbit Hole' is a very unique and special film. In a word ... flawless.

[Note: I actually know a couple who've gone through a similar tragedy, and I do believe I'll be recommending this film to them. One day. Maybe.]

TIFF 2010: the Good, the Great & the Unpretty


Did you get to the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF)? If not, you missed out on a wide collection of films from 60+ countries, portraying all eras, genres and styles. From the Galas and Special Presentations, to the fresh-thinking in the Discovery & Mavericks’ programs or the fun of Midnight Madness—there was something to excite /scare /inspire /disgust /provoke /educate /amuse /touch /devastate or just plain entertain you. I only saw 6 this year, but here’s what I experienced:


Rabbit Hole – Based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning play, this film tells the story of a couple trying to rebuild/survive after the death of their young son. Given its pedigree (it stars Nicole Kidman, Aaron Eckhart, Dianne Wiest and Sandra Oh), I knew that this was likely to be good… but my surprise was only in HOW good it is. The film features excellent performances, a fantastic script, and a great balance of real-world humour & heart-wrenching sadness. Director John Cameron Mitchell is known for his excellent but really, really alternative films like Hedwig and the Angry Inch, so he seems like a radical choice. At the Q&A Nicole Kidman said that she sought him out because she values directors who take chances. Her gamble was a winner, as proven by the two standing ovations at our screening and news of a distribution deal with Lionsgate. If this film is not courted by the Academy at Oscar nomination time, something is very, very wrong.

Kidman heads back to B'way in 'Bird'

Actress expected to star in Tennessee Williams play

Nicole Kidman is lining up her next Broadway gig, with the actress expected to topline a fall 2011 staging of Tennessee Williams play "Sweet Bird of Youth."
A rep for the show confirmed news of the brewing production, to be helmed by David Cromer ("Our Town," "Brighton Beach Memoirs"). Scott Rudin, who also has "The Book of Mormon" on tap for the Main Stem this spring, produces.

Kidman will star as the past-her-prime actress who is the one of the leads of Williams' 1959 play, which centers on the return of a young gigolo to his hometown in the company of the older woman.

Dates, theater and further casting have not yet been nailed down.

I had two big moments at TIFF 2010. One was personal and a bit emotional. And the other was just a breath-of-fresh-air encounter with a mega-watt star, who after 50 years in this glitzy business, remains a swell, ordinary guy. I’ll start with the latter.

The Oscar-winning actor/director Clint Eastwood gave a handful of journalists an unexpected treat last Sunday when – waiting for his film’s Hereafter star and friend, Matt Damon to show up – he plopped down at the piano in the Windsor Arms Hotel to pluck out a lilting melody. The room was dead silent when Eastwood finished, then erupted with boisterous applause. Eastwood gave his famous slanted grin, waving it off. Then he casually strolled over to a booth for the half-hour interview, shaking hands, and introducing himself simply, “Hi. I’m Clint.”

Last Monday at 9 in the morning, I raced to a screening of Nicole Kidman’s family drama, Rabbit Hole, about a couple (Kidman and Aaron Eckhart) trying to cope with the debilitating grief after the death of their four-year-old son, killed after racing onto the street in pursuit of his dog. As a mother – and sister of a brother who lost both his boys in a car accident – I wasn’t prepared for the emotional roller coaster this film would take me on. And I showed up at the interview with Kidman and her co-star, immediately following the screening, a bit shaky and wobbly-voiced. Kidman picked up on the emotional cues.

After our chat, I stood to shake hands. “I can’t shake your hand,” said the Australian actress, striding over to me. “I have to give you a hug.” I left the room, equal parts embarrassed and grateful.

Keith Urban Finds “I’m In” Outback

One of the old jokes about fashion is that if you hold on to your clothes long enough, they’ll come back in style. But it’s not a joke when it comes to songs. They can definitely have a second life. In fact, Keith Urban has given new life to not just one Radney Foster song, but two.

Keith picked up a hit in 2003 when he remade Radney’s song “Raining On Sunday,” and he did it again this year by recording Radney’s “I’m In.” In a very real way, “I’m In” is a direct result of the movie Australia.

“What happened was that Keith was making compilation CDs because they had an eight-hour drive,” Radney says. “Nicole Kidman was doin’ a movie in the Outback. So they’d get off the plane and get in the Range Rover, and they had to have music. He had ‘I’m In’ on one of those [CDs], and she said, ‘Honey, that’s a sexy song.’ And he said, ‘Yeah, it’s one of my favorite Radney Foster songs.’ And she said, ‘Well, you oughta think about doin’ that.’ So he did. So I think I owe Nicole Kidman flowers.”

Both “I’m In” and “Raining On Sunday” appeared on Radney’s 1999 album See What You Want To See, which was stocked with great songs. Unfortunately, not a lot of people got to hear it, because the record label shut down shortly after it was released. Only 17,000 copies were pressed, but at least some of them got into the right hands. In addition to Keith’s covers, the Kinleys — the 1998 winners of the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Vocal Duet or Group — did a version of “I’m In” for Touched By An Angel: The Album. And the Dixie Chicks covered the closing song from Radney’s album, “Godspeed (Sweet Dreams),” on Home and Top Of The World Tour: Live.

With those titles in mind, Radney told his wife, Cyndi Hoelzle Foster, that he ought to consider the resilience of his songs as a topic the next time he gets asked to speak to music business students.

“My next lecture,” he says, “is gonna be the value of a copyright. Twelve years later and several bouts of obscurity and all of a sudden, here it is.”

Radney was honored Wednesday in Nashville for 25 years of membership in ASCAP, one of three American performing rights agencies, which represent songwriters. Next year, he’s likely to pick up an ASCAP award for “I’m In.”

Keith, in the meantime, is still recording his next album, Get Closer, due Nov. 16.

McGraw sets Down Under trend for Oprah

Married to singer Faith Hill and with three musical youngsters, US country star Tim McGraw has all the ingredients for his own Von Trapp family troop.

The Grammy winner has brought the clan - his wife and daughters Gracie, Maggie and Audrey - Down Under for his first Australian tour.

He laughs off suggestions a family album is on the cards.

"God forbid," McGraw jokes with AAP.

"My girls are musical. All three can sing, play the piano, one plays the guitar.

"They would be a lot better than me. But, hopefully, they take after their mum.

"If they want to do it (get into music) you hope they're good. It's a tough business, even if you're good."

For now though, McGraw says his girls are just happy seeing the sights and wildlife of Oz.

"We went to Australia Zoo today, had a fantastic time. They got to play with koalas and kangaroos."

Asked if his good mates "our" Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman warned him about Australia's drop bear population McGraw laughs.

"No they didn't ... We'll watch out for those," he said.

"They did tell us to take a boat around the (harbour) in Sydney."

Australians are some of the best people around, McGraw says before claiming credit for Oprah Winfrey's upcoming visit.

"She heard Tim McGraw's here, so she said: 'Well, I better go'," he says in his southern drawl.

Toronto film festival marks turnaround in movie sales

TORONTO — Filmmakers registered "strong sales" at the Toronto film festival this week with more than 20 films being purchased by distributors from around the globe, the sales and industry office said Friday.

The value of the distribution deals, however, was not announced.

"To date, more than 20 films have been sold to territories in North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, with more sales expected to be announced in the coming days," the festival's sales and industry office said.

Key acquisitions include Nicole Kidman-starring "Rabbit Hole," "Barney's Version," with Hollywood icon Dustin Hoffman, director Werner Herzog's "Cave of Forgotten Dreams," and the William H. Macy vehicle "Dirty Girl."

US sales were also confirmed for "Casino Jack," "The Conspirator," "I Saw The Devil," "Outside the Law," "Potiche" and "Saray's Key."

The festival is the biggest in North America and has traditionally been a key event for Oscar-conscious studios and distributors because it is attended by a sizable contingent of North American media.

More than 3,400 industry delegates attended the festival this year.

"We are very pleased to see Toronto playing a role in the turnaround in the sales climate," commented festival co-director Cameron Bailey, heralding an end to two years of torpid sales since the 2008 economic downturn.

"As a result, audiences in North America and around the world will see some of the outstanding films that premiered here," he said.

Unlike the Cannes and Berlin festivals, Toronto does not award jury prizes.

But moviegoers who bought some 500,000 tickets for the event in 2009 awarded an audience prize for best motion picture to Lee Daniels' "Precious," based on the 1996 novel by Sapphire about an obese, illiterate girl from Harlem dealing with abuse and incest.

The film went on to win Oscars for best supporting actress and screenwriting at the 82nd Academy Awards.

This year the festival, which runs until September 19, will have showcased 258 feature films and 81 shorts from 59 countries, including 112 world premieres.

In honor of the celebratory weekend, Skewering The Skeptics is going to celebrate the best way we know how. And that readers is to give you the gift of transparency, something the E! Online and Urban Myths skeptics detest.

It's been brewing for a while, this decision on when to post the following food for thought, but the subject of today's blog made the decision for us.

Inept Team Maclen: Party Of One


maclen has been playing a game, pretending to be someone he's (or should we say she's) not. We initially chose "he" for maclen, not because we believed maclen is male, but simply because "it" isn't really appropriate. But now, today, maclen is a she. Let us explain.

Maclen went completely off the rails this past week and it got us to thinking.... How does someone who is just a reader and poster have so much free reign on a blog that's not theirs? It also brought us back to the beginning, as it so often does, to get to the truth of what maclen is really all about.

The Urban Myths blog started in January of 2007. "maclen" didn't show up until May of 2007 but read those posts and she's not a poster you'd recognize. Why? Because the persona maclen posts as today is a purposefully crafted and stylized con designed to hide who she really is.

maclen: great blog, I read it daily,,. this marriage has been pretty dubious from the beginning. It will be a very bumpy rollercoaster ride, for all involved, I have no doubt. They've chosen a public vocation, like it or not, and they will need to contend with the scrutiny and speculation. Thats the reality, and of course they try to control the image they would like to portray, some are good at it, some are not. As to kidman, true, this marriage is irrelevant to her movie career... but her real problem is her blandness and choices of movie roles.

I'd say its pretty brave to put your opinions out there for people to possibly question your motives, or your intentions. Just as at this point in showbiz's almost century mark, people who decide to be public figures are not expecting to have their lives scrutinized by more and more outlets. But we all make our own minds on our opinions, and everyone is able to express them.

So I take it you agree with my opinion, and not yours, that this blogger is in fact brave? You seem to want to believe that this is, or should be, a news outlet, with all the journalistic "standards and procedures" that should be adhered to, just like NBC news, CNN,.., etc? Personally, I read this as a personal blog, who gives her /his on urbans career, marital highs and woes, what have you. Ånd I happen to agree with most of it, thats all. If she intends differently, thats fine with me, I'll believe and disbelieve whatever i read anyways, as usual.

For starters, how the hell would you know that it just now started to bother me? Or for that matter, when it started to bother me. And just FYI, so you wont ignorantly and arrogantly post what i think again, I have no problem that urban was involved, its kidman i have a probem with. Dont put words in my mouth.. i dont know where your hands have been!


The bare bones of that old maclen, the arrogance and anger, is what links that persona to new maclen.

Today the repetitive and useless air quotes, overuse of elipses, similar transitions, repeated ad nauseam sentence structure, vocabulary, and use of nicknames like "orb" and "sunry" are simply devices to mask the old Keith Urban fan behind the computer screen. Every ounce of the character of "maclen" is a plot to deceive. 1urbanfan27 tried it at Keith Urban's CMT message board to hide who she was on the E! KUNK threads. It all comes out in the wash though. You can't elevate dirt from mud no matter how hard you try. maclen is no better than Mimosa or astilbe or nomorefan, even if she doesn't start pedophilia, drug abuse, or adultery rumors. Thats maclen's crafty plan....stay away from the nasty E! Online skeptic lies and pound her fist 24/7 that Nicole and Keith's careers are over. Maclen probably thinks she's a genius for coming up with the idea. BAHAHAHAHA!

Maclen has slipped up a few times, like this odd comment where she spells "behavior" the English way.....

Trying to come up with the right personality perhaps?

But then the signature skeptic anger comes forth when maclen is told she is wrong.

Unfortunately maclen is wrong alot. That also raises a red flag. How does a person who claims to know so much about pop music history and therefore the industry fall flat on their face so much? After all, maclen named herself after the McCartney/Lennon publishing company Maclen Music. That much of a Beatle fan puts her into the key age bracket of a skeptic. Don't you think it's hard to believe anyone into detailed knowledge like that can be that dense. Or is it that they want to make it look that way? We go back to a key statement from several readers (personal acquaintances of the skeptics) that's been brought up more than once. Skeptics will knowingly and repeatedly post false information and rumors that even they don't believe just to keep the con going. They do it as part of the game.

Urban Myths has been playing the game since its inception....Posting blogs without giving so much as a screen name credit to the writer and suspiciously the blog owner "UM" responds very little. The more maclen has posted the less UM shows up. Who starts a blog with the decision not to interact with the readers? A poor attempt to simply spread lies rather than have any kind of mature discussion would be the motivation.

So let's get back to this past week when maclen lost it. This is just 3 of the ludicrous rants.....


maclen: They probably hired their own photographers to get the "magic moment"...to show off to their fansie sites...who have absolutely no problem with that "thing" they have no "opinion on"... and are quite able to simply ignore! Clearly, "country fans" have no opinion or "problem" regarding racism! So, Kid Rock's "confederate flag" can proudly wave on...and napalm mayer's "david duke D*@k" can readily boogie with frosted highlights and blond, blue eyed orb to the parade of the caucasian masses. But I bet darius rucker will be allowed in the building...granted that he gets in throught the BACK DOOR!

MAYER: I’m half Jewish. People say, “Well, which side of your family is Jewish?” I say, “My dad’s.” And they always say it doesn’t count. But I will say I keep my pool at 92 degrees, so you do the math. I find myself relating to Judaism. One of my best friends is Jewish beyond all Jews—I went to my first Passover seder at his house—and I train in Krav Maga with a lot of Israelis."

Wow...being half jewish on your father's side..."doenst count?"....so he replies.."he keeps his pool at 90 degrees, so do the math" is ridiculous gibberish that means what?

PLAYBOY: It is true; a lot of rappers love you. You recorded with Common and Kanye West, played live with Jay-Z.

MAYER: What is being black? It’s making the most of your life, not taking a single moment for granted. Taking something that’s seen as a struggle and making it work for you, or you’ll die inside. Not to say that my struggle is like the collective struggle of black America. But maybe my struggle is similar to one black dude’s.

No your struggle is of a loudmouth douchebag who somehow feels entitled because you play guitar and want to be "down with the homies!"

Orb clearly knows how to pick his associations for the most distasteful results! And I'd say after this cmt performance...the crossroads telecast and the live gig in August, people will not be able to think of napalm mayer without also thinking of orb...what a smooth and savvy operator!

maclen: Because I find it heineous that mayer is finding "refuge" in the country community...and he's getting in via the orb. When mayer made those disgusting comments last Feb, there were many celebs who came out against them...

This disgusts me even more than kidman's exploitation of the UN ambassadorship to shill her films...and the realization I made clear a few comments ago that it is quite obvious that there is a VERY VERY high tolerance for racism in the COUNTRY COMMUNITY..whether it's mayer finding a "safe haven" with his new brethren orb at the CMT awards...or as I also pointed out...CMT awards host, Kid Rock's LOVE for the confederate flag! And I will absolutely bring it up over and over and over again, through the Crossroad telecast later this month...to the live gig they have together in August. So if you cant stomach my comments over this issue, I recommend you skip or ignore them... if they make you feel "uncomfortable" that orb is giving mayer a "country pass" to hide out among the appeasers and the high tolerant of his racist attitudes within the country industry and of the country fans without one word of opinion or acknowledgment...I again, suggest you cover your eyes...plug your ears and cover your mouths!


What have we got here? Some serious stupidity. Maclen thinks she can pretend she doesn't understand what Mayer meant when he said his father's Jewish side of the family doesn't count. Maclen thinks she can pull off serious anger over Mayer coming into country music when in 2007 she said she didn't even know country music. She said she only knew Urban though Kidman. She still pretends to only hear snippets of Urban's music. Does she think that absolves her responsibility for the lies she posts?

maclen (2007): Urban, I dont know much about, except that he has some serious addiction problems, has a few hit country songs. I'm not into country music, so i cant talk to the quality of his music really. I find kidman to be irritatingly bland, dull and lacking in any personality what so ever, to merit the acclaim she's given in the industry. I find her to be, to my taste, a shameless advocate of her own fame and adulation, who will utilize the usual cliched hollywood charity "work " simply to promote their cultivated image.



Funny, how could someone who didn't follow country music know about Keith Urban's addiction issues? Coverage of country artists didn't really travel outside the radar of country music fans until a few years ago. Please don't tell me she heard all about it because she followed Nicole Kidman''s career like a hawk, even though she can't stand her! Funny, how maclen says she can't judge Urban's music but today takes every opportunity to do so against other country music she said she had no knowledge of. And funny again how maclen, supposedly not a skeptic, quotes chapter and verse, albeit more pompously, the reasons why the skeptics say Nicole Kidman is an evil witch.

We'd also like to ask maclen and the skeptics how did maclen get into their "gated community"? That's a term used by the skeptics themselves, because they know they had to try to keep out anyone not willing to lie and backstab to keep the delusions going. Unfortunately for the hardcores, some saw the light and left the cultish group (it's sounding more and more like one isn't it!). Someone left a comment on Urban Myths to the effect of "I've known you maclen from another KUNK board, but what you are saying now is too much to go along with". If someone can find that quote from the UM comments it would be greatly appreciated. But it was there and it sent up a huge warning signal.


There's also the issue of leadership. A blog owner has to take the reigns because the sad truth is the freedom of the internet gives certain people the idea that they can do and say whatever they want (Just ask nomorefan!). Maclen can say whatever insane opinions and lies she wants and they are published, no questions asked. More personalities like "abc" have popped up who have posted just as much stupidity and they are allowed in time and time again. "abc" with their delusions probably thinks with the World Cup going on in their country that the New Zealand team, called the All Whites, is racist. Why not go hog wild crazy on the racist issue skeptics?

None but a few with common sense will say anything against the insanity. It comes back to skeptics allowing an opposing opinion to keep the game going. They don't care that they are proven wrong. They need a platform to keep the discussion going because they are mentally out of kilter. After 5 years they need an argument to stay active. Look at the E! Online skeptics. Without threads that allow both sides to post, they have to struggle just to get a page worth of hate going. "Urban Myths" accepted maclen with open arms....

4) Allowance to post whatever she wants regardless of how stupid it makes the group that is Urban Myths look

It was their roots that first brought the country star and the Oscar-winning actress together. The couple met in January 2005 at G'Day L.A., a Hollywood event honoring Australians. Keith and Nicole began dating a few months later and were married June 25, 2006, in Sydney.

"I don't even know if she's changed my life; she's given me a life," Keith tells The Boot of his beautiful bride. "There's seemingly no relevance to my previous life, before meeting her. I have such deep love and gratitude for everything she's done for me."

The couple's daughter, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, celebrates her second birthday this summer. The Urbans live in Nashville, where Keith jokes that Sunday's upbringing may result in a bit of a mixed accent. "When she starts talking, she's going to say, "G'day, y'all!"

Keith Urban cites his father as the reason he made it to Nashville and is doing what he loves to do. "His record collection was what got me pointed towards Nashville," says the multi-talented musician. "He drove me to the music store to buy my first guitar. He was always extremely supportive of my music, and I have a lot to to be grateful to him for. Years later, he's still married to my mum, and he's got two sons that love him. So, I think that counts for a good job." Keith actually wrote a tribute to his father, aptly titled 'Song for Dad,' which appears on his 'Golden Road' album.

Being a father himself now, Keith says he loves everything about being a dad to Sunday Rose, who will turn two in a couple of weeks. But he and wife Nicole Kidman do want to instill some core values into their daughter as she grows up. "The biggest thing for us to instill a work ethic, that's the thing that's most problematic for me -- this unwillingness to have a work ethic. The ability to access information so quickly makes people think that their ability to achieve something is also meant to be expedited, but it doesn't work that way. It's never going to work that way, and if we're going to build something solid, it's going to be built slowly, step-by-step-by-step ... and there's nothing sweeter than having to work for something. It's a tremendous feeling."

KEITH TURNED NICOLE INTO A COUNTRY MUSIC FAN.

Keith Urban says his wife Nicole Kidman, now a constant fixture at country music award shows, is a fan of country music—thanks to her hubby. "Yes, she does [like country music]. She has no history of country music, so it’s been great to be the one to get her into it," he said. "Not long after we started dating, I went to the record store, and I bought The Best of Waylon. I put it in [the CD player] with a bunch of other discs and I let that one play first. She said, ‘Oh, who’s this? I like this.’ So that was the start. Now she’s into the Zac Brown Band, she loves Miranda [Lambert] and others."
During the awards show, Keith rocked his first televised live performance with rock guitarist John Mayer, a collaboration on Keith’s "Hit the Ground Running." , swapping guitar licks with John. " I tried to get him out of his shell a little bit, musically speaking," Keith said, to the laughter of everyone in the room.
Urban’s passionate ballad "Til Summer Comes Around" was awarded Male Video of the Year at the CMT Music Awards last night.

Keith Urban Hops Fence to Meet Surprised Fans

Fans who waited all day in the pouring rain outside Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, hoping to at least get a glimpse of their favorite country star going into the show (never mind to get the chance to say hello or get an autograph!) were given the thrill of a lifetime by Keith Urban before the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night (June 9).

Keith not only made his way up and down row after row of ecstatic fans, giving them their own personal meet-and-greet, he took it one step -- make that one leap -- further, hopping a fence to make sure he met every fan he possibly could before going into the show, CMT reports.

"They've been waiting out there all day and it was pouring rain earlier," Keith told reporters backstage after the show when asked what makes it so important for him to connect with his fans in such a way. "If you're standing in the front, you're hoping to get a chance to meet everybody," he explained. "So I think you just make time to do it ... or you're putting the cart before the horse."

And Keith's fans certainly put him at the top of their ballot when they awarded him the fan-voted Male Video of the Year for 'Til Summer Comes Around.'

"Everybody who voted at home and around the place, thank you very much," Keith said with a warm and gracious smile when accepting his award.

During the show, Keith set fire to the stage with John Mayer when they put on a blistering, dueling guitar performance of 'Hit the Ground Running,' a single from Keith's album, 'Defying Gravity.' The two guitar gods will be rocking out together again on 'CMT Crossroads,' airing June 18 at 10:00 PM ET.

TAB: Nicole Kidman Has “Freaky Moment” with Tom Cruise

Accidents happen, but the National Enquirer has made mistakes an art form.

The tab claims Nicole Kidman had a “freaky moment” at Joe Allen’s restaurant in New York during drinks with cast and crew from Broadway’s “A View From the Bridge.”

“Someone accidentally bumped her back against a wall plastered with photos of the famous,” tattles the tab, “one of which crashed to the floor.” The damaged portrait was of none other than Kidman’s ex-husband Tom Cruise.

“Oh, my God! I can’t get rid of him!” Kidman supposedly shouted with a laugh.

It would be an amusing item… if it were the least bit true.

The restaurant’s maitre d’ tells Gossip Cop he can’t recall Kidman ever coming to the eatery.

Oh, and Joe Allen’s doesn’t even have a Tom Cruise photo on the wall.

The Enquirer story is “made up,” he confirms.

Gossip Cop isn’t too surprised. We’ve seen one too many of the tab’s tall tales shatter into pieces.

'Danish Girl' picks up German cash

Nicole Kidman starrer gets $1.5 mil subsidy finance

BERLIN -- Lasse Hallstrom's upcoming drama "The Danish Girl" starring Nicole Kidman has picked up €1.2 million ($1.5 million) in subsidy financing from Germany's NRW Film Board.

Senator Film Koln, Senator's English-language production shingle, has boarded the project as a co-producer together with U.S. group ELBE and Cologne-based MMC Independent. Hallstrom is planning a 19-day shoot in Germany, for "Danish Girl," one of the conditions of the subsidy cash.

"The Danish Girl" is based on the real-life romance between 1920s Danish painter Einar Wegener and his American artist wife Greta Waud. After his wife asks him to pose for a portrait in women's clothes, Einar becomes obsessed with cross-dressing. Eventually, with the support of his wife, he decides to undergo the first-ever sex-change operation. Kidman will play Einar.
