Otherwise, numbers for the 10-day fair are pretty good. Over the Labor Day weekend, he said, the fair is at times the largest city in the state. Saturday, he said, 15,000 to 20,000 came in at the gate, close to 10,000 watched Keith Urban, several thousand more came with discount tickets, 5,000 to 10,000 came with group tickets and another 2,000 to 3,000 had tickets bought at Price Chopper.
The Champlain Valley Fair is ending after tonight. Sunday afternoon, it was on pace to match the numbers of the last three “very good” years, Champlain Expo Treasurer Kevin Marchand said.

Keith Urban thrills crowd with wild 'n' rockin' show at Oakdale
WALLINGFORD, CONN. – Keith Urban is 42 years old but he makes teenage girls scream as loud as their mothers.
He also manages to ignite the animal instincts in virtually every female of any age but this is no boy toy under bright lights. Urban may be well chiseled and camera friendly but he’s also a phenomenal entertainer, a barn-burning guitar player and a passionate singer, as he proved again and again Sunday before a packed house at the Toyota Presents Oakdale Theatre.
The Australian heartthrob – husband of actress Nicole Kidman – turned in a rollicking two hour finale to his “Summer Lovin’” tour, often drawing Beatlemania type shrieks from the predominantly female audience. Wearing jeans and a tight, short-sleeve black shirt with three buttons undone, he kicked off the night with the pulsating “Kiss a Girl,” ably backed by his three-piece band.
Urban is classified as country but he’s marginal country and falls a lot more into the crossover rock territory. Except for an occasional bit of twang it’s tough to figure why any rock fan would write him off thinking simply that “he’s that country guy.” Indeed, Urban can rock with the best of them and his high-energy stage show is absolutely one of the best in the business.
After a rockin’ “Days Go By,” other early set highlights included a harmony-filled “Sweet Thing,” a kickin’ “Where the Blacktop Ends,” and the highly-melodic crowd fave “You’re My Better Half.”
A strong “I’m In,” off Urban’s latest album “Defying Gravity,” followed before the atmospheric, slow building “’Til Summer Comes Around,” which featured some stellar guitar work by the star.
The acoustic-based ballad “Making Memories of Us,” and the sing-along “Only You Can Love Me This Way,” each shined, but after that, Urban and his bandmates turned up the power and the intensity for the rest of the night.Opening act Kris Allen, winner of the eighth season of “American Idol” joined Urban for a rousing cover of “Jack and Diane,” and when Allen briefly drew a blank on some of the lyrics, Urban had the rising star and the crowd laughing when he shouted out “And you won ‘American Idol?’” The crowd went into near total hysteria when Urban jumped into the audience for a raucous rendition of the playful “You Look Good in My Shirt.” This wasn’t just an obligatory step or two into the first couple of rows. Urban raced up the aisles singing the song, providing quite a challenge for the security staff trying to keep up with him – while trying to keep fans from some overly-aggressive star-grabbing. Urban even stood in the center of the theatre, singing heartily near the soundboard to fire up the crowd in the back of the room. Mission accomplished and then some. He was laughing by the time he finally returned to the stage, ending the song flat on his back, evoking a deafening roar from the throng. There was still time for plenty of passion however, especially during the lyrically stinging “You’ll Think of Me,” a classic break-up song. In a classy gesture, Urban brought out his friend and Australian country star Troy Cassar-Daley who took center stage for a fine version of Curtis Mayfield’s gospel soul classic “People Get Ready.” After the optimistic “Better Life,” Urban returned for encores that included a solo version of Dusty Springfield’s often-covered “I Only Want to Be With You,” and the full-band workout “Somebody Like You.” Allen’s opening set was well received, sparked by a driving rendition of his newest single “The Truth,” his breakthrough hit “Live Like We’re Dying,” and covers of Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” and The Beatles’ “Come Together,” the latter two culled from his “American Idol” appearances.

Overlooked Movie Monday: Margot at the Wedding
Can a film whose central characters are uniformly unlikeable be dramatically compelling in their midst?
“Margot at the Wedding,” Noah Baumbach’s caustic follow up to his 2005 foray into the dynamics of divorce, “The Squid and the Whale,” raises that question right at its onset and persists in not chocking up an easy answer to it. It tells the story of Margot—a self-centered, passive-aggressive egotist played to perfection by Nicole Kidman—and her son, Claude, as they attend her sister’s wedding in the Hamptons and stay the weekend at their childhood home.
The aesthetic brings to mind Bergman’s delicate, icy approach to familial acrimony and the hand-held neo-realism of many a contemporary drama. The palate is one of desaturated grays and browns and blues and pinks, and it is the best visual rendering of a gloomy weekend culminating in marriage I can recall. Everything about it feels melancholy, and it’s a fully appropriate format for the film’s array of misanthropes to congregate and collectively ruin.
jack black jennifer jason leigh margot at the wedding 2007Instead of the lot feigning normalcy or putting on airs and then finally breaking down into hysterics, Baumbach has it so that the moment everyone is situated in a close proximity to one another, they immediately reignite (or otherwise develop entirely) their dysfunction in lots of colorfully passive-aggressive and immature ways. The film is an exercise in dashed expectations—in every scene where enjoying one another’s company enters the realm of possibility, it’s almost always sidelined by one or more person’s awkwardness or hostility.
Naturally, Margot disapproves of her sister Pauline’s fiancée, Malcolm, and spends her time smoldering with contempt as a result. Their tacit rivalry is an example of the time-tested archetype of the judgmental sophist and the stooge. And who better to play that stooge than Jack Black?
As Pauline, Margot’s sister, Jennifer Jason Leigh maintains a certain equanimity throughout the performance and really only expresses angst backhandedly and under the radar. They’re all doing some of their best work. Throw in heartfelt and effective performances from the younger half of the cast and John Turturro (one of the most delightful surprises in movies, period) as Margot’s (soon-to-be-estranged?) husband, and the end result is a rich and satisfying, if somewhat bleak, character drama.
kidman jason leigh margot at the wedding 2007Baumbach’s strengths undoubtedly have their roots in his literary background (see “Squid” if this contention seems murky). His dialogue is incisive and droll and usually plays to one or more psychological defects the character spewing it is harboring; his characterizations are unremitting, honest, and unsentimental. There’s a certain grace and beauty to everyone’s emotional ugliness.
And that brings us back to the key question raised by a film of this disposition: Why should unlikeable characters preclude an emotional point of entry for the viewer? If they’re painted as pitiable and insecure and their delinquency isn’t celebrated, sympathy—or at least some version of understanding—shouldn’t be too strenuous to muster.
Cinema has beckoned greater sympathies for villains far more despicable than the insecure narcissists who populate “Margot at the Wedding.” These are people who navigate their interpersonal experiences like wounded puppies and exist in a mode of self-defense; they’re not serial killers. When people reject movies with unsavory characters at face value, I think it’s more or less an admission that they hit too close to home.

Twentieth Century Fox Celebrates 75th Anniversary At Hollywood Bowl

The ever so iconic Twentieth Century Fox theme tune was the opening score at the Hollywood Bowl Sunday night as its orchestra paid tribute to the studio's 75th anniversary.
Conductor David Newman led the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra through many award-winning scores that included The Sound of Music, Star Wars, Avatar and more which were projected on the Bowl's big screen.
The night's event, titled The Big Picture: The Films of Twentieth Century Fox, was hosted by Robert Osborne.
The night opened with a montage of clips from 165 of the studio's films, to the opening theme of Star Wars.
Early into the evening, Osborne spoke about the studio's most acclaimed musical director Alfred Newman.
"For 20 years, he was the studio's general musical director, he composed the music for over 300 films, he even did the 20th Century Fox fanfare we hear at the beginning of every Fox film," Osborne said.
"One of the great treats tonight for us is the fact that his son David Newman is our conductor tonight.
"Alfred Newman went on to be the most honored musical in the history of the Academy Awards and Hollywood - 45 Academy Award nominations and 9 Academy Awards."
Highlights in the first half of the evening were a montage of clips from Slum Dog Millionaire and a sequence between Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge.

Country star quickly follows blockbuster 'Defying Gravity' with new disc

No one would blame country-music superstar Keith Urban if he took a little time before releasing his next album.
It's been just 17 months since his blockbuster "Defying Gravity" was released — meaning a new disc would the shortest time between albums in a career that has seen all five of his U.S. releases hit platinum sales.
The disc also just gave him another high-charting single, "I'm In," which was at No. 2 on the country charts this week. It's the disc's fifth single, all of which hit the Top 3, and gives him an astounding 21 Top 5 country his in 10 years.
But in a recent telephone call from the Nashville airport, on his way to a show in Minneapolis (he headlines the Allentown Fair grandstand on Friday with "American Idol" winner Kris Allen), Urban says he's already more than halfway done on a new disc that will come out this year.

"It was time for new music," Urban says in an accent that, even after 18 years in the United States, reveals his New Zealand birth and Australian upbringing.
"I've been writing quite a bit since January, and I felt like we had a strong batch of songs to go; that I was just ready to get into the studio. A lot of the time it's just a combination of do we want to and are we ready to put some new music out. And I felt like we're really, really ready."
These days, Urban seems ready for anything.
He's passed the fourth anniversary of his marriage to Australian actress Nicole Kidman and the second birthday of their daughter, Sunday Rose. And he's approaching four years sobriety after difficulty with substances during the mid-2000s, when his back-to-back albums "Golden Road" and "Be Here" sold a staggering 7 million copies total.
And it's not lost on Urban that, with peace in his life, "Defying Gravity" has been such a hit. A decade after he broke in America with "Your Everything" and then the No. 1 hit "But for the Grace of God" off his self-titled 1999 album, "Defying Gravity" was his first to cross over to No. 1 on Billboard's overall Hot 200.
"It's immensely satisfying," he says. "I just feel intensely lucky and grateful and inspired to keep making new music."
But asked how he's been able to not only continue his success, but also increase it, Urban honestly seems at a loss.
"Part of it, I think, is just I've been doing it for a long time," he says. "And country is my foundation. It's what I started out playing in Australia, and was fortunate to have a lot of success with it there before I moved to Nashville. So I think it's just having a long time to sort of figure who I am musically and what it is that I do.
"And the rest, I think, is just sheer timing. It's just luck and timing and having the right thing to say at the right time. And hopefully knowing how to say it in such a way that it connects with enough people."
When it's suggested to Urban that the soft rock element he adds to country could have put him on the pop charts in the 1970s, he doesn't disagree. But he says that rather than just a reflection of where country is today, it also shows where pop was then. He says, for example, The Eagles' 1970s albums could be country hits today.
"They certainly would be just as at home on country today, just like Zac Brown is," he says. "I don't know why things work when they do and why other times they don't. It's just timing and where everybody's at."
Asked to describe the songs on his new disc he says he finds it challenging to do that.
"I don't know. I think it encompasses whatever it is that I do. It's not a huge musical or subject departure from records I've done prior to this one. I really couldn't define it. I think it's a sexier record, but it's still a tempo record. I don't really know how to define it just yet and I guess, given that we're not finished with it yet …" he says, laughing.
He says all the new songs already are recorded and in post-production.
Urban says he won't play any of the new songs at the Allentown Fair or other dates this summer. Instead, expect hits off "Defying Gravity," such "Sweet Thing," "Kiss a Girl," "Only You Can Love Me This Way" and "I'm In," as well as his biggest hits, such as "But for the Grace of God," "Somebody Like You" and "You'll Think of Me." Also, he and Allen have been dueting on covers from John Mellencamp, Don Henley and others.
Urban says he expects to mount a full, proper tour next year.
"It's nice to get a record out before the end of the year, let people have some time to live with the record before we start touring early next year," he says.
But more than affecting how he writes, his personal happiness has affected his entire outlook on life, Urban says.
"I think for me, it's probably represented more in my love for what I do," he says. "A deeper sense of purpose and less about self. I think anybody who's had children knows that it's certainly not about 'me' anymore," he says with a laugh.
"And I think as a musician, as a songwriter, that's a great thing, because I'm trying to sort of connect people — me to them and them to themselves. And I think making a connection to people is my primary thrust for what I do."

Urban development: Keith plays CMA Music Festival

Keith Urban is married to an Oscar-winning actress, but he knows he has another important relationship to maintain: the one with his fans.
Still at the forefront of country music stars, Nicole Kidman's spouse gets a big opportunity to please his followers each June, when artists and listeners converge on Nashville for a Country Music Association-sponsored event. The four-day gathering is captured for a television special, and ABC airs this year's edition of "CMA Music Festival: Country's Night to Rock" Wednesday, Sept. 1.
A preview disc indicated the three-hour show offers a generous dose of the New Zealand-born and Australia-raised Urban, whose virtual greatest-hits set includes "Kiss a Girl" and "Days Go By." Among the many other talents showcased: Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride, Alan Jackson, Reba McEntire, Trace Adkins, and engaged couple Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton.
Though he's had a busy summer concert schedule, as have so many of his country music peers, Urban recognizes that playing the CMA Music Festival is still a prime gig.
Q: Did you enjoy performing at this year's festival as much as it appears?
A: Yeah, I really did. There's something about that crowd, and probably that little bit of extra mojo about performing in that stadium -- not long after it was under water (from the flooding in Nashville) -- was a euphoric feeling as well.
Q: Have you intentionally stocked your catalog with tunes that practically invite the audience to sing along?
A: I hoped that one day, I would have a set list where people know the majority of the songs. It's a blast to look out there and see people singing along with every song; it's incredible. I'm always happy to let my voice take a break and let the audience carry it!
Q: How have you personally experienced the growth of the festival, which used to be known as Fan Fair, over the years?
A: It's astounding to see how big it's gotten, particularly this year. I couldn't see an empty seat anywhere. It's such a win-win; what a magnificent thing that this festival is based on the genre and not on the specific artists. So many people come to celebrate their love of country music, and within three or four days, you've seen everybody.
Q: You made a point of saying in the show, "Nashville is alive and well and open for business." How are you finding it there now?
A: Certainly, it takes a little while, and it's been difficult with Opryland out of commission. I think people know we're back up and running, though, and Tennessee isn't called the Volunteer State for nothing. Everybody pulled together, and here we are.
Q: Is being the father of Sunday, your two-year-old daughter with Nicole, having an impact on your music?
A: Yeah, for sure. I'm not out there working all the time, and from being home, it's important to have something to take out onstage. I think everything benefits from it. I think the performances have more purpose for me. If we're going to go out and connect with everybody, what are we communicating? I have enormous gratitude for having found somebody and found my center ... then to be able to plug into that through my music, if I can.

CMA Noms TO Be Revealed Over 2 Days
Final nominees for The 44th Annual CMA Awards will be announced over two mornings, on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
On Wednesday, Sept. 1, Dierks Bentley and Miranda Lambert will announce the final nominees in five CMA Awards categories live from the Good Morning America studios in New York City on ABC. The announcement will air in the 8:30 AM/ET half-hour segment of the morning news program.
On Tuesday, Aug. 31, Justin Moore and Chris Young will announce the finalists in seven CMA Awards categories from Nashville at a press conference at the historic Ryman Auditorium.
In Nashville, Steel Magnolia will announce the finalists for the 2010 CMA Broadcast Award Personality and Radio Station of the Year in four categories (small, medium, large, and major markets), as well as the finalists for the CMA National Broadcast Personality.
The 44th Annual CMA Awards, known as “Country Music’s Biggest Night(TM),” will be broadcast live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Wednesday, Nov. 10 (8:00-11:00 PM ET) on ABC.

Keith Urban gives fans a sweet show at Indiana State Fair

Despite being at the end of the promotional cycle for his 2009 album "Defying Gravity" and being armed with no new music to hype, Keith Urban made plenty of memories Saturday night at the State Fair.
The show belonged to his audience (estimated at 10,000), the country music star said at the outset.
A rendition of John Mellencamp's "Jack & Diane" -- with a mostly capable assist from supporting act Kris Allen -- provided one unexpected wrinkle.
No modern musician surpasses Urban in terms of giving credit to Mellencamp as an influence, and the Australian clearly enjoyed playing "Jack & Diane" for a Hoosier crowd.
Urban also shared news that his wife, Nicole Kidman, was watching the concert from the side of the stage.
With Justin Bieber (who attended Friday's Drake concert) and Kidman as guests on consecutive days, the fair must be the place to be.
Urban, meanwhile, always looks for ways to connect with fans, and Saturday's dash to sing a song at the bottom of the bleachers improved a similar stunt from his 2009 visit to the fair: He stood on a higher platform, and he played a bigger hit, "You Look Good in My Shirt."
Before the show, a large video screen displayed fan text messages, including one that hailed the concert as a great date night.
Without making gender-based generalizations, an Urban performance does offer enough to thrill both parties in a relationship.
One half of a duo might swoon to melodic confections such as "Kiss a Girl" and "Sweet Thing," while the other half might spend the drive home raving about Urban's guitar prowess.
His picking lived up to its growing reputation Saturday, when a piercing yet creamy guitar tone defined an extended solo at the conclusion of "Stupid Boy."
Speedy riffing brought "Where the Blacktop Ends" to a climax, while Urban's blues-rock skills on "'Til Summer Comes Around" legitimately earned comparisons to Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Ever pray you'd meet a star?
You really can see stars almost anywhere here in Music City, and that includes church on Sunday.
Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman brought two-year-old daughter, Sunday Rose, to one of Nashville's largest Catholic churches, the Cathedral of the Incarnation, for 11 a.m. mass.
Sunday Rose wore her Sunday best, a white dress, while her movie star mom, hair up, wore a butter-colored dress, slit to the knee, with strappy flats. (Believe it or not, I got that description from a large dude parishioner, not a woman. But I didn’t make fun of him. Did I mention he was large?)
Keith had on jeans and a button-down shirt.
Later, the merry trio was spotted having lunch at upscale meat-and-three The Copper Kettle, in the trendy Green Hills area of Nashville.

'American Idol' Kris Allen still has a big fan in Keith Urban
Kris Allen can count on at least one music superstar -- Keith Urban -- if he needs anything for his resume.
The eighth-season winner of FOX's "American Idol" has performed (including on the Season 8 finale) with the country staple, who has only good words for the relative newcomer.
"We've done a few shows, and we have a couple more coming up," Urban tells Zap2it. "He's great! I love him. He's just got a good, real singer-songwriter vibe about him, and he's really finding his own way. He has a great voice and a good heart, and I like him immensely."
Three-time Grammy winner Urban considers the "American Idol" approach valid.
"Every artist is going to find his way, and you never know how it's going to come. I was just reading about Christina Perri, this girl who recorded one song, and somebody slipped her demo to the producers of 'So You Think You Can Dance.' They used it for one of the dance sequences, and the next day, it sold 100,000 copies. She's off and running now.
"It's amazing how it happens, but ultimately, I think there's no quick road to learning your craft. If you can get on something like 'American Idol' and launch your career, though, have at it. It's a different world these days, and I think you have to take any opportunity that comes."
As he and actress wife Nicole Kidman continue to celebrate having their year-old daughter Sunday, Urban is starting work on his follow-up album to 2009's "Defying Gravity," in and around summer touring that has involved concerts with the Eagles and will reteam Urban with John Mayer (his partner on a recent CMT "Crossroads" special) before it's over.
"I can already see it's going to be a great bunch of songs," the New Zealand-born, Australia-raised talent says. "We do a little Backstage Experience at our shows, and someone said the other night, 'Can you play us something you're working on?' I played them an acoustic bit of something, but we only have a limited time to play [on stage], and I want to make sure we cover all the songs people really want to hear."

Vidaroo Jumps on Video Production Agreement
Vidaroo Corp (VIDA, Free Analysis), a provider of video technology software and services, jumped more than 80% after being selected by award winning artist Keith Urban to provide creative visual elements and video production for his Summer Lovin’ Tour, with its next show scheduled for July 8, 2010 at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival in Canada.
Investors are hoping that the new tour will help drive the video production company’s revenues. Last quarter, the firm realized a net loss that narrowed to $317,587, or $0.01 per share, versus approximately $1.3 million a year ago, on revenues of $413,272 versus just $61,022 a year ago. The 22nd annual MusicRow Awards took place Thursday evening at the BMI offices in Nashville, honoring the year’s hottest session players, as well as Breakthrough Artist and Songwriter, Producer, and Song for 2010.
The event was hosted by Clay Bradley, who called Music Row “the greatest creative community in the world.”
In addition to handing out awards, he announced that BMI will match donations for flood relief from Music Row, up to the amount $50,000.
The evening saw performances from Allen Shamblin and Tom Douglas, writers of Song of the Year, “The House that Built Me,” (which appears on Miranda Lambert’s Revolution) and Chris Young, Breakthrough Songwriter for “Getting You Home (The Black Dress Song).”

Keith Urban likes Fruita’s coffee

Tom Hinman wouldn’t know a celebrity if one walked right up to him.
So he was surprised to learn that legendary country music singer Keith Urban, headliner at this year’s Country Jam, did just that at Aspen Street Coffee House, last weekend.
Another person working the counter recognized Urban and told Hinman, owner of the shop.
Urban asked for a chicken sandwich but the coffee shop doesn’t serve chicken sandwiches, so he settled for a cup of black coffee instead.
“He was very pleasant,” laughed Hinman as he told of the brief conversation they had.
Urban, who was wearing a cowboy hat and dark sunglasses, asked “What do people say about your coffee?”
“They say it’s good,” Hinman replied.
“It is good,” Urban said.
That’s all there was to Hinman’s brush with country-music fame but it was enough for Hinman to change the sign out front to read: “Keith Urban likes what people say about our coffee.”
“It was obvious he really didn’t want to be bothered,” Hinman said, adding that Urban was accompanied by a woman and a very large bodyguard.
This is the first celebrity Hinman, whose owned the store for eight months, has ever met but rumor has it that Graham Nash, of the band Crosby, Stills and Nash, always makes a pit stop at Aspen Street when he’s in Fruita several times a year.
Celebrity Sighting: Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman Work Out at Fruita Gym
FRUITA, Colo (KKCO) - Country Jam 2010 is in the books -- but a Fruita business will be talking about it for a long time to come, after two huge stars stopped by on their way to Mack.
While thousands watched country music's biggest stars light up the stage at the Country Jam Ranch Sunday, Fruita Health Club employee Meghan Woodland was at work. Little did she know, however, that a big piece of Country Jam was going to come to her.
She got a phone call form the gym's owners telling her a band would be stopping by to work out -- but didn't find out who it was until later in the day.
"I got a second call saying that Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman were coming to work out," said Woodland, who was the only employee working at the time. "I was warned about ten minutes before they came so I could relax and get my business face on."
But Woodland says several days notice probably wouldn't have been enough time to calm her nerves.
"My jaw dropped," said Woodland. "It's a good thing I was sitting down, because I needed to sit."
Especially when they walked through the front door.
"It was surreal," said Woodland. "They're real people wearing real workout outfits. It sounds funny, but meeting them was just humbling. They said hello and thank you for letting us come here."
She says the famous couple worked out for about an hour and a half -- Nicole Kidman on an eliptical and Urban lifting weights and doing other strength training in the aerobics room.
"I would find things to do in the room out there so I could walk back-and-forth to see what they were doing," said Woodland.
Although security asked that no one take pictures of the pair while they worked out, the gracious superstars signed a wall near the front entrance of the gym -- giving the excited business a little something to remember this once in a lifetime encounter by.
"I hope next Country Jam I'm working here to see who I get to meet," said Woodland.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You're opening some shows with Barenaked Ladies and some shows with Keith Urban. They're so different musically. What has that been like for you?
A. Kris: It's been really cool. The music that we play, I think people are gonna love it. We played one show with Keith and it was awesome. We were in Vegas and there were a ton of people there. Keith is such a really cool guy and he embraces everything. We played a few shows with Barenaked Ladies too, and they have a great following. Being in the opener spot is great because you get to play for a bit and get the crowd excited.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What have you learned from being around them?
A. Kris: The times we've been around the Barenaked Ladies have been really scarce. They're funny guys. Keith handles himself really well. He's just a guy. He's one of the biggest country stars, or music stars in general, out there. He loves doing what he does. People forget that he's just a regular person, a regular guy.

Muddy cow poo wouldn’t stop fans from seeing the country superstar

“Are you here for the Keith concert?” asked our waitress at Red Lobster in Greeley. Clearly our answer was an ecstatic “yes” as we looked around to see all the other country fans cuted up to head to the Greeley Stampede for the long-awaited concert. That’s right, Keith Urban was in Greeley getting ready to play in front of a packed crowd at the fairgrounds in the heart of the Greeley Stampede.
Metromix arrived to lines of cowboys and cowgirls ready to get in and get to their seats. It was slowly becoming obvious that Keith Urban is probably playing in front of thousands of his No. 1 fans with many handmade signs detailing their love for Urban and some reading as simple as “hug me.”
Concertgoers paid more to be up front and center and on the grounds of the arena. The only problem? It was a down pour hours earlier, leaving the fairgrounds a giant muddy mess. People even wrapped their feet up in plastic bags only to find that mud and plastic are slick. Others just said “The hell with it,” and wore no shoes around the muddy mess just to be closer to the stage. And some, yes like your fellow Metromixers, wore white high heels and stuck it out. We officially want a shirt that reads “We stepped in cow poo for Keith Urban.”
Yes, we were at a country concert and it couldn’t get more country than that.
Once Keith Urban came out on stage, the crowd went wild, shoving the people next to them to see if they can get a closer look at the long, flawless haired country superstar. Without a doubt concertgoers weren’t disappointed with the upbeat song choices of the night with Urban belting the familiar tunes of “Days Go By,” “You’ll Think of Me,” and “You Look Good in My Shirt.”
It wasn’t until Keith said to the crowd, “I am celebrating my wedding anniversary with my wife (Nicole Kidman) and she was going to leave and decided to stay behind so now she’s with me while I am in Greeley.” And the crowd went nuts with the thought of Nicole Kidman sitting backstage during the concert. Keith immediately went on to a popular love ballad and dedicated it to her.
All in all, fans stepped in cow poo for Keith Urban and nothing but smiles and lyrics left after the concert. We even overheard a couple fans say, “Gosh that Keith sure knows how to rock a crowd.”
